Kenzo Takada, its designer, opened his first shop in Paris in 1970.Since it was decorated with jungle prints, he called it Jungle Jap, a name that soon became popular with young, fashionable models looking for fresh, spirited clothes.
Inspired mostly by traditional Japanese shapes, Kenzo’s early, highly desirable collections included causal handbag made by natural fabric trimmed with leather.
They were predominantly made from cotton and quilted. Kenzo also specialized in knitted cross body bag and backpack which was added to the cottons to produce an electric, comfortable look.
Kenzo Takada retired from the house in 1999. The new co-creative directors of Kenzo are Humberto Leon and Carol Lim.
