French leather and luxury goods’ company Longchamp was founded in 1948 by Jean Cassegrain, originally to create leather coverings for pipes and products geared towards smokers.
By 1955 it had expanded to include small leather goods, opening its first factory in Segre, France. By the 1970s, Longchamp had opened boutiques in Hong Kong an dJapan, and had became known for its lightweight travel goods.
In 1980, the founder’s son, Philippe and Germany.
Le Pliage, a collection of foldable travel bags made of vinyl and leather trim, was launched in 1993.
In addition to its heritage as a luggage and accessories label, Longchamp has collaborated with notable designers and artists including London
Based Thomas Heatherwisck who designed a leather and canvas expandable bag constructed from a spiral zipper.
Such was subsequently commissioned to design La Maison Unique Longchamp, the label’s boutique in New York’s Soho.
