Guy Laroche’s career began at a hat and women handbag maker’s in Paris, then in New York, on Seventh Avenue. On returning to Paris, he found employment in the maison de couture of Jean Desses.
His successful apprenticeship encouraged him to open his own house in 1957. Laroche was renowned for his mastery of design and Leather Handbag development.
His early work was influenced by the architectural cutting of Cristobal Balenciaga, but he later gave that formality a lively freshness, cultivating popularity with younger women this meant diversifying his couture business by moving into ready to wear in 1960.
