The poncho may come and go in fashion, but San Franciscan – born Alexander Wang’s 2012 take, made from satin and angora, was more desired than most. Launching his first women handbag collection in 2007, Wang’s downtown, “model-off-duty” look – inspired by the 1990s, French chic and grunge rock-was an instant hit.
His studded bags and sporty T-shirts became indispensable. Wang’s sports-meets-luxury design inhabits what he calls the “undone” the gap between refinement and imperfection.
