A true recycler knows that even Dad’s crusty old hand-me-downs can become killer accessories.  “It was actually an accident,” says Karl , designer of  Karl Lagerfeld FASHION, of whom is the refashioned bag that launched his career as an independent handbag designer.  “I was at my parent’s house about four years ago and wanted to make our-self a handbag.

And so this “accidental” handbag led to another, and another.  Now, with a thriving wholesale handbag business, Karl hunts for leather in charity thrift stores and rag one of a kind.

But finding the right jackets is become a challenge, “Karl says.”

“They can’t be too expensive, must be in good condition, and be available in popular colors.” However challenging, we’re pretty sure that most people would prefer hunting for leather in thrift shops to hunting for it on the range.

I found a leather jacket of my dad’s, so I cut it up and made a bag out of it.  I ended up really liking the result.”

 We love Karl because not only does he name his bags after really cute songbirds (like the Warbler bag, shown here), but she also creates ethically responsible design without compromising an ounce of style.
